How We Treat Earwigs Using IPM

Our process starts with a thorough inspection, not a spray can. Before any treatment, we look at exterior foundation conditions, mulch depth and placement, gutters and drainage patterns, and damp interior spaces like basements and crawl spaces. We also check for less-obvious entry routes: earwigs can come indoors on potted plants, firewood, or cardboard boxes brought in from outside.

Habitat Modification

Adjusting mulch depth, improving drainage near the foundation, and clearing organic debris are practical steps that reduce the moist conditions earwigs need to thrive. These habitat changes support longer-lasting pest management than treatment alone and are a core part of what we recommend before or alongside any chemical application.

Exclusion & Sealing

Sealing gaps around door frames, utility penetrations, and foundation cracks limits the entry pathways earwigs use to move from the yard into the structure. We identify these points during inspection and can walk you through what needs attention.

Targeted Perimeter Treatment

When inspection findings justify it, we apply a perimeter treatment that works to limit earwig activity around the structure. Our IPM protocol means we apply materials where conditions call for them, not as a blanket application across the entire property. Every product we use is selected to be safe for children, pets, landscaping, and the local ecosystem.

One additional step worth mentioning: switching bright white exterior lights to yellow or amber bulbs near doorways and foundation gaps can reduce earwig attraction at night. Earwigs are nocturnal, and intense white lighting draws them in. It’s a small change that supports everything else we do.
